In February 2026 Cohort 4 celebrate 12 years since we set up as an organisation and this week we will reflect on what we do, how we do it and the impact.
“Cohort 4 has given us the opportunities to believe in ourselves and empowerment.”
There is a growing group of women in society who experience multiple and complex disadvantage linked to experience of trauma. These women, our women, us.
Doing for Ourselves
Often ‘done to’ rather than ‘done with’ or even ‘doing for ourselves.’ Cohort 4 is different in that we are the women we support. Most of us have experienced domestic and or sexual abuse, all of us have experienced or do experience long term mental ill health conditions, many of us experience physical disabilities, and all of us recognise the impact of acute loneliness. This personal experience of trauma contributes to a multitude of disadvantage and struggle through into adult life. Many of our group members live alone, or with children and face barriers relating to inadequate services, especially those who support women holistically with a range of unmet need. A lack of understanding, a lack of funding and a lack sometimes of willingness to address multiple and complex issues. Many services do not reach the village locations in the north of the county and we have been fortunate for the past 12 years to have a community of women who offer each other strength, non judgement and support. Over the next week, our birthday week, we’ll be sharing what we do for those who are not sure what they have on their doorstep and how special a space like Cohort 4 is.
A Community of Strength
We are a community of strength, a peer support and peer mentoring woman centred organisation that operates in Mancetter, Atherstone and our group members come from all around the area, including Nuneaton, Bedworth, Gordon, Grendon, Polesworth, Kingsbury and Tamworth areas. Our group members have asked for a space where nothing is hurried, there are no time limits nor waiting lists, for gentle, longer term care, understanding and support. We are Cohort 4.
